Let’s get real.
When you are on that drive home after a stressful, yet fulfilling day, one of the last things you want to do is go home and do more work. I know that I encourage you all the time to do more so you can be better, but I get it, some days, you just don’t want to. Aside from my usual talk inspiring you to do all these things that you may not want to do everyday, let’s talk more about 3 ways to unwind and cozy up after those long days.
Try to incorporate these tips on days that you just.aren’t.feeling.it. You can do these on their own or you can do them all in the same night.
Tip #1 - Skin care and *the* shower
The shower is not just your typical soap, rinse, and dry off. This shower is for ultimate self-care. You can add a shower steamer, exfoliate your body, grab a loofah and lather it up with your best-smelling body wash, cleanse your face, and if it’s a hair wash day or shaving day, this is the time to do it! If you are feeling a bath, tie your hair up, soak up in some bubbles, add a candle, and relax. Lotion up your body after and put on your most comfy pjs.
So... you may hear this all the time, but SKIN CARE ROUTINE! I know that you are probably looking at that 6-step routine and thinking how badly you don’t want to do it, (the hardest part is starting, we know this), but your skin will thank you so much for being consistent. Less may be better for your skin, so if all you need is a little toner and moisturizer, then go for it!
Tip #2 - Dessert
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you are all about those desserts at night, but I am not talking about your typical ice cream or cookies (while that is good at times), I am talking maybe yogurt or nourishing foods that won’t make your stomach act up during the night. Reference Pinterest for some tasty and gut-friendly dessert recipes, there are so many recipes that are protein packed and still delicious. If you aren’t into making anything, sometimes a simple piece of dark chocolate or warm tea does the trick for me!
Tip #3 - Books, journaling, TV show/movie
Here is the thing with shows, you may get like 3 hours deep and not even realize it. A movie is done after the allotted time, and if you are anything like me you may fall asleep half way through. During this part, eliminate all of your lights and light a candle or put your diffuser going with essential oils, maybe have a lamp or two on and just indulge in that much needed you-time. You can also grab your savory dessert and read your favorite book or get some journaling done; sometimes writing is the best stress reliever. It will also be hard not to grab your phone and start scrolling on social media, but doing so may put you in a funk, and we don’t like funks over here.
*Side note, try going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every morning. Doing this will help you fall asleep easier and your body will start to run more efficiently. I also can't go without saying- exercise is key, so when you are feeling up for it, definitely make the time to do it.
The end of the day is about celebrating all that YOU have accomplished and allowing your body to unwind in the proper way that it deserves to. These 3 tips are super easy to do and don't require much of you. Self-care is the best care and practicing it daily will keep your mind and body in line where it needs to be.
